sebum’ that is secreted by the skin glands. Sebum gives the skin its smooth look and feel and is important to its normal functioning.

Sometimes, though, these pores begin to appear abnormally large in size, and they pose a health problem. This increase in the size of the pores could be as a result of a number of things. At times the presence of large facial pores is caused by genetic and hereditary reasons. On the other hand, it is more likely caused by the occlusion of the pores by the oily sebum, dirt, and dead skin cells.

Blocked facial pores, apart from being ugly and unattractive, can also result in other equally serious skin disorders such as acne, blackheads, and pimples. Large facial pores are also more common in women than in men, and also in adolescents.Because of the ugly appearance they give to the facial skin, enlarged pores are often a constant source of embarrassment and pain to those who have them.

There are many homemade, natural remedies available to reduce large facial pores. To reduce large facial pores, these are some quick, easy and effective homemade treatments.

Mix one egg white with half a teaspoon of lemon juice, and whisk into a foam. Apply onto a clean face. Leave to dry until the skin feels taut and well tightened. Wash off with cool water. Repeat this regimen at least twice a week for best results.

Steaming the face by placing it some inches above a bowl of steaming (not boiling) water for about 2 - 3 minutes also helps reduce the pores as it clears them of the oily sebum within. This therapy works best by also wrapping a towel around the head to help increase the effect of the steam on the face.

Alternatively, ice can be used to reduce the size of the facial pores. Lightly rub an ice pack on affected skin areas for about 30 seconds at a time. The cold temperature of the ice contracts and tightens the skin, resulting in the closure and reduction of the size of the pores. This technique works best after a thorough cleansing of the skin using any one of many homemade skin care face mask recipes available.

Having young, healthy, and attractive skin does not have to be an expensive affair. At times, it is the expensive, synthetic skin care products that cause the greater damage to the skin, actually producing opposite effects to what they are meant for due to the harsh chemicals and additives they contain.

Going natural with your skin care products is not only a wise move, it also costs less in terms of money and health risks. It is certainly a move worth making.
